The Great Headline Debate

My last blog blast went out with the headline ”The World’s Three Most Shocking Brands” in the subject line. I got 13% more opens than my past average.

Then I developed these subject lines for a client’s email push:

  • “Fight the Evil of Ho-Hum Events”
  • “Overcome Death by Presentation
  • “Battle the Terror of Event Planning”

The client feared that words like “death” and “terror” were insensitive. We ended up going much tamer with this header: “Be the superhero of your next event.”

I say PC is boring. Shocking gets read. What do you think?
